Lappy Talk.

I have been busy lately - the most over-used excuse of any mom with kids (or anybody for that matter).

I hardly have time to lull and enjoy time with G, my Dell laptop. Lately, I have been reading some focus group discussion threads on recommendations for laptops. I have been a pro-Dell user ever since (even if this is my first laptop) primarily because of recommendations. I am very very intrigued with MAC computers, especially the MACBook Air, but as long as Im going to stay home and take care of the kids, that aint gonna happen.

Anyway, like I said, there is a great article over at ShopWiki on how to pick the laptop for you. There are many things to consider when buying one and the article says to choose one feature that is extremely important for you - is it portability (weigh), space (hard drive), clarity of videos (video cards), internet connection (wi-fi ready), etc. Based from experience (I have a Dell Inspiron 1525), Im pretty happy with my customized laptop - I just should have upgraded my laptop battery. Mine just lasts 3 hrs and needs to be plugged in again - that wont work when Im out.

Wii {we}

This one is a funny one. So the husband comes home yesterday loaded with goodies. He bought Matthew several Yu-gioh notebooks, Marvel comics and a basketball jersey. I got a new phone (slightly used, so I can use my other line), and Martha got nothing. Wait, she got french fries :) (She was happiest about it nonetheless). So after our massage, we sit together doing nothing, just eating leftover fries. He was apparently bored. So he blurts out, “Let’s buy a Wii.” And Im all, “Are you serious?” And then he says, “Of course NOT!” And we laugh. Matthew got all excited about it.

Im seriously going to buy one for us though, I just need to pay some bills and get my application for BON California done. It is cheaper when bought overseas so I just might have a relative (or Glo) buy us one. I was looking for accessories, consoles, games over at ShopWiki. Scrapping boards have Wii threads popping up most of the time so Im fairly excited the mommies like me are also getting hooked!

So hook me up. What Wii games do you recommend? I want adventure Wii games or simulation ones. I just saw a Super Mario Wii game and am beyond excited because this is the ONLY game Ive played when I was a kid :)

And then I learned Wii is pronounced with a long E :)

We need a new desktop.

Well, honestly, just an lcd monitor. But if you ask the husband we might as well upgrade everything. The LCD has been blinking on and off for sometime now but lately it has been blurring a lot as well. We are holding onto it as long as it will hold on its own as a new desktop isnt on our plans for the next couple of months. We are pretty heavy graphic viewers - watching movies, using Adobe a lot so the monitor is extremely important to us (good thing I have G!).

Taking care of G.

So G has been with me for around more than month now, and she has been a family computer as well. No matter how hard I try to keep her clean, I still see thumbprints of the kids on the screen and the cover of my lappytop. So I busted some more money over at CD-R King to get a laptop cooling pad, screen protector, microfiber cloth (functions like a microfiber mop for lint without scratching surfaces), and a cleaning kit.

And whaddayaknow I havent even opened it still.
Very very aggie yeah?

Going (Window) Shopping.

I finally got the chance to drool for some gadgets today. Forget about my search for the perfect furniture and kitchen equipments for the new house. If money wasnt an issue, I’d have the latest gadgets known to man. That is one area where the husband and I really agree on - technology and over-all geekiness. With scrapbooking (digital) as a hobby, a camera, printer, scanner, laptop - all high quality of course - becomes a need. I already have the Canon Digital Rebel (EOS400d) and a pink Dell Inspiron 1525 (customized of course). The scanner we have is a Canon Lide Scanner (flatbed). So other than a few lenses I want for the Rebel - Ive been eyeing the macro lens, I need a printer.

The question is, shall I go Epson or HP? (Ive been pretty loyal to Canon all my life but scrapbookers have been recommending Epson a lot).

Epson Stylus Stylus R800 Photo PrinterThe Epson R800 printer is a very recommended printer among scrapbookers - the only setback I have is their ink is quite expensive. I might convince my husband to buy me that though. Note that Ive been trying to convince him for two months already. I think it is bad timing with the house move and expenses piling up (in addition to my resignation). I like having to window shop online at Mpire.com as they provide comparison on prices on different shops.

Western Digital My Book™ Essential Edition (WDG1U5000N) 500 GB USB 2.0 Hard Drive And for somebody who downloads GBs of stuff on the web (mp3s, korean dramas and scrapbooking kits), I need an external hard drive to serve as a back up of my stuff. I pretty much have decided on a Western Digital My Book™ Essential Edition 2.0 (1000 GB) 1 TB USB Hard Drive - just waiting for a sale and the big baby will be mine :). I think I will get a 500GB for a back of the back up too.

There goes my gadget needs. I hope extra money will come in so I can finally buy them.

Summer Essentials.

Summer is here, and the heat can be unbearable sometimes. While a trip to the beach is nowhere in sight for us right now, it doesnt mean I shouldnt come up with my own list of summer essentials. Actually, I only have two (three, if you add one, but I hate tagging it along) summer essentials that I need - sunblock and sunglasses. Id want to have to add an umbrella but oftentimes, I hate bringing it, or I bring it and lose it within the day. I cant stand those little umbrellas that fit into most bags because Im big and I think it’s a pathetic excuse for trying to cover what will only cover the head. So I removed it from my essential list. I use VMV Armada SPF 60 for sunblock because it is lightweight and hypoallergenic (perfect for my sensitive skin). Now, with sunglasses, I struggle with this a lot.

You see, I don’t have that much of a nose that can hold any kind of sunglasses. Add to that is the fact that my face is round - so shopping for sunglasses can be quite hard for me. I dont really think the trends these days - aviators, and those really big oversized square sunglasses will look good on me.

The only one that looked good me on was my Kenneth Cole shades which broke after three years of wear and tear. It was a gift from a cousin and she called it blind-man shades (it has the style that most blind people use). But hey, it looks good on me! I need to shop for a new one!

It was something similar to this:
Kenneth Cole New York KC6028 (Metallic Black/Solid Smoke Lens)
