One of the biggest requirements I have for our future house is for it to have lots of light – natural light. Positioning of the house, and its corresponding windows would be essential.

Going Camping

There was an ad for a camping workshop for kids at a camping site a few places from our house and it had an option for parents to stay in, but a different location from where the kids will go camping. The eureka tents were going to be provided for by the authorities, we were only encouraged to bring pillows and blankets if we have preferences on the number of pillows we usually sleep with and if it gets too cold for the kids at night.

When I broached the idea to the kids, they were at first excited but then got scared. They are going to be camping out in open ground and my kids are deathly afraid of bugs!

Singing Their Boredom Away

My kids are on summer break and they are officially bored. We didn’t have the time to enroll them early in summer classes because we had a lot of events to go to during weekend and my grandmother passed away.

We are now free these days so they are going to start their swimming lessons tomorrow. My eldest really wants to learn to play the guitar so bad that we are really looking for a music center to enroll him in. My daughter, on the other hand, often sings karaoke with a telefunken mic that I am thinking if voice lessons is in order for her!

I am so crippled. I really need to learn how to drive. But I need to get better at following directions first. Maybe I need a Garmin GPS first. Imagine this: I need to go to the store, 45 minutes away by public transport AND I need to bring the kids (no one left to take care of them) – and then it rains. HARD. I can’t postpone the trip because it is the princess’ milk that we ran out of.

Poor me.

Car Solutions

We went to the city last Sunday and I was so happy the husband was able to borrw his Dad’s car because it was airconditioned and safer – it was so hot that day and at least we were able to go around the city comfortably. It needs rv extended warranty though as its insurance is up for renewal. I hope we can borrow it from time to time from now on.

Cross Country Moving

When we moved from the city to the mountains (as well call it, we just moved to the suburbs – the very far suburbs!), it was like experiencing a cross country move. Not only did we experience environmental changes, there were more lifestyle changes that we need to adapt to. It was quite overwhelming, being in a new place, adjusting being a homemaker instead of a career woman, and being completely on your own but it was worth it. It made me remember when my sister-in-law did some cross country moving too, from Chicago to California just last year. They did the move by land because they had three kids and was in convoy with the mover trucks. East coast to west coast – wow!

I saw two elderly women yesterday walking along together at around 8PM. Given where we live, that’s late into the night already. I got worried for them since we don’t have that much streetlights and our main road is a highway into one of the busiest cities in the area. Speeding vehicles might run over them without even noticing.

It is sad how lacking our country is with regards to elderly care. Our tradition of having extended families into our care is good and have nice intentions, but we have to be realistic when we can no longer take care of our elders at home. It would be better to find them a find a nursing home.

There are a lot of different nursing home services that can be suited to your elderly. There are skilled nursing facilities, intermediate care facilities and in-home health care. Skilled nursing facilities or SNFs are actually what you can call “mini-hospitals” as they provide an extensive range of services from dietary, medical, nursing, pharmaceutical, and activity services as well as support with day-to-day living functions such as dressing or bathing. Most elderly people with Alzheimer’s Disease would need this. The intermediate care facilities doesn’t always have access to licensed medical professionals but they are required by law to have them present at least eight hours a day.

Last week, our rice cooker died. It short-circuited.
