Home Plans

Now that we are renting and are living on our own (we stayed at my parents’ home for two years when we got married), we now realize the big burden of paying rent - we feel it is going down the drain (in short, nowhere). It would be much better to invest on a rent-to-own home or get a home loan (like Pag-Ibig loans) and buy a house.

And we are seriously considering doing that. We love talking about future plans, Edil and I. The things we like in a house, the style, the type of furniture. In fact, Edil even got architectural magazines for us to pore and browse over. Home Plans are what I browse through during free time (which is scarce). We really dont need to get the services of an architect since we know what we want in a house (plus Edil’s brother is an architect).

What do we want? Me, Id love a big garden, a private house (house far from the main road, so that I want a garden) and I really want a family/entertainment room and an office/home study. Contemporary house plans are what Edil likes best. He loves the minimalist zen look with lots of wood. While I admit I dont really have a preference, Id like a functional house to minimize clutter but I want it homey (read: chic). French Country House Plans seem to be my liking.

More Needs

Well, it is basically wants for now.

We need more furniture. I want to replace our dining set, order bed frames (switch from a king to a queen), get a new bed frame for Matthew’s bed. Get console tables. Lamps. Everything that you would want to beautify your home, basically.

We saw a made to order furniture store (who sells palo china, which are basically refurbished lumber made into nice stuff) and the quotes they gave us were staggeringly cheap. So cheap that I can even order two bed frames in a month with my just 20% of my sideline earnings. But we need to basically budget everything first. We can avail of the cash advance being offered at Edil’s office but that can be used in real cases of emergency (like one of us getting hospitalized or for the kid’s tuition fee).

I realized having your own turf really makes you a queen, I just wish I can have the money to make it like a comfortable mini-palace for us.

Today is the day.

Today is the day we are going to go broke.

We are supposed to buy a ref for the house and fans (we have three rooms and a living room with only one fan - how sad). And we are also supposed to have my eldest tested for his entrance exams in two schools we have narrowed down for him. I dont know if all this would push through though. I have a lot to do today - one of them to apply for internet and cable connection at the house and change all mailing addresses for our bills to our new one.

I think the list is endless. *sigh*.

Today is also the day I will try to convince a close family friend to submit himself to rehab. He has been hooked on alcohol for the longest time and we were all in denial that he is addicted and getting himself more hooked than ever - he was able to maintain his job and wasn’t really violent. However, things are spiralling down as the drinking spree has become nightly and he can gulp down one bottle of brandy in one night. He has been really depressed and alcohol was his way of coping. So he really needs to undergo alcohol rehab. I think we will be doing this the medical way and make sure he gets alcohol detox before we start on counselling and therapy. I dont know why he would be depressed as he has a very happy family but I guess you will never know what really goes in inside of him, right? It can be childhood issues, job pressures, identity problems - we really do not know. I just know being addicted to alcohol is like drug addiction as well.

My Dream Office Space.

Just think Pottery Barn and I think you’ve got it. Ive been in love with the Bedford Modular System for awhile now as it looks homey with lots of space and functionality.

Here are some of the workstations I love:

Edil and I like the second one better but that is saved when we get a house of our own. At least we agreed on something - the look and feel of the house we want! (Think lots of wood and neutral furnitures with a splash of color).

Now, I am so copying this space by my friend, Gloria:

It’s perfect for small spaces and perfectly doable too :) In fact, I already have the bookcases and photo cube boxes (in green though). It came with the box she packed for me. I have G, like hers too :). If only I can get a chair like that in green as well.

I hope my space can be fixed as soon as we move into the house. We have some leftover plywood I can get painted or varnished.
