Two in a Year.
That’s how much we moved houses this year. The first one was the hardest. We moved from city to the suburbs and literally started with nothing. The second was easy because we moved to a smaller house only 15 minutes away.
But it would have been easier if moving houses here are standardized and if there are even moving companies! Believe it or not, we moved on our own! We packed boxes ourselves, hauled the furniture into a borrowed van and did all the unpacking and transferring – WITH two kids in tow! We could not leave them anywhere. We would move things at the middle of the night – less traffic but travel time would still take 4 hours. We get dinner from drive-thrus. It really was a memorable experience. Something I’d like to remember but necessarily relive thru again
Did you know that in other countries, moving houses is very efficient? You just hire the services of movers – which already has a moving van, and they can offer you home insurance if you want and you are good to go. Can you imagine that?
For example, there is a website in the UK specifically built for moving, buying and selling homes. It is called MoveMe.com and they offer guides on renting, buying, selling, moving with kids and/or pets, and moving with people with disabilities. They even tell you how to organize your move by taking care of your utilities, transferring and requesting of accounts and removals of phone lines, internet connection, etc. They are all very efficient I can’t help admire them! There are even removal quotes you can inquire from the removal company – they refer to moving services sometimes as “man and van”.
They even have services for you – like if you need help setting up your broadband internet, setting up gas and electricity and even changing locks through a locksmith! If these were available here, I would not mind moving many times over a year!
